What Is a WCS?
A Warehouse Control System sits at a lower, more mechanical level. It doesn’t manage inventory or orders. Instead, it controls the physical equipment on the warehouse floor, conveyors, sortation systems, automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS), pick-to-light systems and robotics. A WCS translates instructions from the WMS into real-time commands that move products through automated equipment.

The Key Differences Between WMS vs WCS

Do You Need Both?

Without a WCS, a WMS alone can’t talk directly to conveyor belts or sorters. Without a WMS, a WCS has no inventory or order context to work from.
